A contemporary Art Route in Vaucluse

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Collection Lambert in Avignon, you’re invited to come and discover the wonderful, unusual, and inspiring places in Vaucluse that are dedicated to contemporary art.

20 years of the Lambert Collection in Avignon

It’s already been 20 years since the Lambert Collection was established in Avignon thanks to Yvon Lambert, an art dealer and collector who donated an outstanding collection of major works from the second half of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century to the state.

Housed in two magnificent 18th-century townhouses in the heart of Avignon, the Collection Lambert displays ambitious exhibitions and a varied cultural and educational programme.

We’re already looking forward to the high-quality exhibitions planned for 2020:
I will reflect what you are… From Nan Goldin to Roni Horn, an exploration of the Intimate in the works of the Lambert Collection (24th April – 14th June 2020)
Comics Trip ! As 2020 is the ‘année de la bande dessinée’ (year of comics), the Collection examines the links between artists and the aesthetics of comics (24th April – 14th June 2020)
Yan Pei Ming – this Chinese artist is the subject of a double exhibition, in the Chapel of the Popes’ Palace and at the Collection Lambert (27th June – 27th September)
20 years of the Collection Lambert, by artists who have exhibited their works at the Collection since its foundation (15th March – 24th May / 14th June – 13th September / 27th September – 17th January)

Villa Datris in l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

This lovely Florentine-style house in the centre of Isle sur la Sorgue has been home to a contemporary sculpture foundation since 2011. The light is beautiful, and, combined with the subtle scenography of the lighting, contributes to the enhancement of the works on display. A theme is defined each year, and sculptures and installations by established artists or young talents populate the entire house, basement included, as well as the garden behind the house as far as the river which borders it.

Conferences, workshops and exciting interactive activities take place at the Villa Datris throughout its opening season (May to October).

The Jardin Singulier at Saint Léger du Ventoux

On the Northern slopes of the Mont Ventoux, a former forester’s house in the village of St-Léger-du-Ventoux is the new home of Nathalie David’s small publishing house. Following the move in Spring 2019, David sought to breathe new life into the place by giving it multiple functions. Pay the Jardin Singulier a visit and you’re sure to be amazed by all there is to discover. As well as a bookshop and café which house sculptures by Laurent Chauvat, there is the Land Art trail – here a work by Yoann Crépin, ‘L’arbre à vent’ (The Wind-Tree), constructed entirely using stones and other objects gathered within a 20 metre radius; there a wood pile in the shape of the Mont Ventoux – or even interactive works which welcome contributions from adults and children alike. As you make your way along the paths, take a seat in a hammock, hanging seat or bench, and enjoy a moment’s quiet contemplation. A definite must-see.
