Avignon Terre de Culture

Avignon Terre de Culture 2025

Back in 2000, when it was one of the European capitals of Culture, Avignon dazzled with its exhibition La Beauté.

25 years later, the city is once more planning a rich programme of festivities entitled “Curiosité(s)”, which will run from January to December and is designed for both visitors and local residents.

The rich programme will complement the new updates to the city, such as the new station forecourt and the enrichment of Avignon’s museums with the eagerly anticipated opening of the Bains Pommer and the installation of a temporary museum in the Eglise des Célestins.

Curiosité(s)

Curiosity, or curiosities like those in a Renaissance cabinet of curiosities, will be the common thread running through the exceptional programme that will punctuate every season of 2025 from January onwards.

On the programme:
– The major exhibition of the year dedicated to the works of visual artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, which will take over not only the Palais des Papes but also the city’s museums and public spaces.
– A curious 1.7 km-long banquet around the ramparts, welcoming 7,200 guests.
– A curious open-air ball for everyone.
– A curious parade led by a collective of local artists, including the magical puppeteers of Deraïdenz.
– The Maisons Folie, a network of cultural hubs.
Métro Europa, an invitation to travel along virtual lines on foot, by bike, or by bus, stopping along the way to discover artworks that punctuate the route.
– The Cloître St Louis taken over by street artist Mifamosa.
– A temporary Museum of Curiosities at the Église des Célestins, featuring several exhibitions curated by cultural organisations such as FRAC and the Musée des Arts Modestes in Sète… and much more!

And the icing on the cake of this programme: the dates for the IN and OFF Avignon Theatre festivals (official + fringe) will line up for the first time since the beginning of the Festival d’Avignon (IN created in 1947 and OFF in 1966).
