From Avignon to Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, 4 exhibitions not to be missed this year in Vaucluse!
“Faire Corps” at Villa Datris
Since 2011, Villa Datris has delighted us with its annual exhibitions dedicated to contemporary sculpture, tirelessly exploring new themes that are as exciting as they are joyful: Movement and Light, Weaving-Braiding, Recycling-Upcycling…
The key to its undeniable success over the years? The high quality of the exhibitions, under the leadership of its founder Danièle Kapel-Marcovici and the expert direction of Stéphane Baumet, the richness of the mediation, in the form of guided tours and thematic activities for all audiences, a charming situation on the banks of the river in the centre of L’Isle sur la Sorgue, works which inhabit the villa from the cellar to the attic and from the elevator to the garden, and finally – it’s rare enough to note – free entry.
In 2024, for its fourteenth exhibition, the Foundation will explore the body through the vision of around sixty artists.
Since the 19th century the representation of the “classical” body and the “ideal” nude has been called into question, reflecting profound changes in our societies. Through the exhibition, we will be able to see the body traversed by concerns about racialised, feminist and gendered representation.
The works can also be a critique of physical outperforming, dear to capitalism, of social injustice and bioethics, of wars and major contagions, or campaigning for ecology. If these subjects are evidently addressed, they become above all, in the hands of the artists, an ode to beauty and life. Among the artists exhibited, Louise Bourgeois, Nick Cave, César and Niki de Saint Phalle, as well as emerging artists from the contemporary art scene.

“Curiosité !” at Musée Angladon
The Angladon Foundation is undoubtedly one of the hidden gems of Avignon, a beautiful collectors’ house built in the shadow of Ceccano (XIV) cardinal palace, which is now the city library. This small museum houses the collection of the fashion designer and art lover Jacques Doucet, an iconic figure of the roaring twenties, whose eye immediately caught the importance of the great artists of his time.
Amongt the artists exhibited at the museum: Van Gogh, Manet, Monet, Picasso, Modigliani, Cézanne…. These alone are worth a visit. And yet, every summer, an exhibition devised by Director Lauren Laz creates a second fascinating journey around an artist or a theme.
Curiosity will constitute the common thread of the 2024 exhibition. Curiosity is indeed a necessary quality, intimately linked to the vocation of a museum. This necessity pushed the Museum team to revisit all the collections, examine the reserves and reopen the cupboards of a residence which preserves a heritage of more than a thousand works, constituted by several generations of collectors, from Jacques Doucet (1853-1929) to Paulette Martin (1905-1988).
Lovers of forms, they investigated all eras, all styles, in all latitudes. While not claiming to embrace the totality of these abundant visions, the exhibition will reveal essential facets, sculptures, drawings and prints, ceramics from here and elsewhere, articulated around a chronology, lines of force and types of objects.

“Dans la Vague” at Campredon Art & Image
In 2023, a new page turned in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue for the Campredon Art Centre, now Campredon Art & Image. Since 1984, the museum has hosted exhibitions of good quality modern and contemporary art. But faced with new challenges (digital transition, new public expectations, etc.), Campredon changed course, with a single annual multidisciplinary thematic exhibition.
Digital technologies in particular have burst into the hanging space and take us into a total experience, combining visual, photographic, digital and video arts.
After a 2023 season full of lightness and the immaterial in the world of Zero Gravity, Campredon Art & Image invites us on an artistic journey that surfs the crest of the Wave! We can dive into the heart of the aquatic, sometimes welcoming, sometimes threatening, which makes an artist’s dream like a blue paradise and creates, for a surfer, an ideal of beauty, strength and performance.
We can explore the spaces to immerse ourselves in a set of iconic creations and new productions (digital art, painting, textile art, video, design, photography, installations, etc.) by around twenty artists such as Martin Parr and Bernard Plossu, Lorraine Turci, Noémie Goudal and Sarah Moon…

A female street artist at the Palace of the Popes
It is a challenge taken on every year by the curators of this extraordinary place to host an exhibition commensurate with its stature. Already in 2019, the immense mural frescoes of Ernest Pignon-Ernest proved that urban art could work in a mineral setting which underlines the graphic and dimensional force of these extraordinary works.
In 2024, after the major exhibition dedicated to Eva Jospin last year, this palace, built by men, for men, will host for the second year the works of a female artist, this time an essential figure in street art. We have known Miss.Tic, the Parisian poet and visual artist since 1985, for her trademark drawings of women, stencilled on the facades of the capital and generally accompanied by poetic or philosophical aphorisms. “À la vie, à l’amor” will be first solo exhibition of the artist, who died in spring 2022.
