From December to the end of February, truffle growers, chefs and hoteliers imagine weekends with all sorts of ways for you to find out all about the tuber melanosporum, the black truffle, the greatest quantity of which in France is produced in the Vaucluse.
At the Hôtel de Montmirail, in Gigondas
The weekends of January and February 2024
Three generations of the Nicolet family have been spoiling guests at the Hôtel de Montmirail in the Dentelles de Montmirail, surrounded by the Gigondas vineyards. Arnaud, who is both a chef and truffle grower, has designed weekends for his guests during which he can share his passion for the mysterious mushroom.
You start by going truffle hunting on the Saturday afternoon, on the heights of the Dentelles, near the hotel.
An aperitif is served in the evening from 7pm, to prepare the taste buds for a truffle dinner served with the best regional wines.
After breakfast the next day, if you like you can book a wine activity with Convives de Lafleur (€80/2 people, as an extra charge)

At a truffle grower’s in the Luberon
12-14 January, 26-28 January and 2-4 February 2024
Nicolas Monnier organises days or weekends at his old 19th century farm near Apt to share recipes that showcase fresh truffles, and give advice for how to retain all the qualities of how they taste and smell. He will take you to visit his traditional truffle patches to look for the precious tuber melanosporum.
On the programme: arrive at 3pm on the Friday afternoon, visit the farm and initial introduction to truffles, aperitif and dinner.
Saturday: look for truffles in the truffle patches plus a cooking class, lunch and dinner with truffles are included during the day,
Sunday: cooking class, advice on keeping truffles, walk possible in the surroundings.
Rate: €800/2 people, for a 2 nights/3 day stay in a double room, meal included.

In a guesthouse in north Provence
Weekends in January and February 2024
Martine has planted 80 truffle oaks in front of her old Provencal farmhouse in the middle of vines. It’s therefore here in Visan, not far from Richerenches, that this truffle weekend starts. You’ll discover the ancestral activity of truffle hunting with her dog, go to Richerenches market where truffles are bought for cash from car boots, with 3 meals being enjoyed throughout the holiday. You can even help Martine in the kitchen on Saturday to prepare a meal with truffles in order to understand all its culinary secrets.
